Education Level (Economic and Social)
There is saying in Thailand that education is the best gift parents can give to their children because they are unable to live with their kids perennially unlike education, which will be with them forever. (and will help them build a career and earn money) In the sense of corruption, not only will education get people more skilled jobs (which will make them less dependent of money from political parties/candidates) but also enable them to read and write as well as improve the thinking system.
The higher education, the higher chance to make more money out of the jobs. In Thailand, minimum wage for unskilled workers is three hundred baht per day which is nine thousand baht per month. Comparably, one that complete four year university get fifteen thousand baht per month and who have a chance to study in top college get more. Having enough money causes people to be independent of corrupted politicians.
People who can read well are more likely to understand newspapers and online media, and therefore be able to critically evaluate their own public institutions and politicians. In short words, education help people not to be blinded. There is strong correlation between the literacy rate and the corruption perception index, especially in Africa.
The foundation of the education system also plays a significant role here. In Thailand, the political science related subjects are not taught widely in school. We learn about the prime ministers history but not the basis of political systems, the role of politicians, or our rights in the system.
